New coronary pneumonia continues to wreak havoc, and many countries are stepping up research and development of vaccines. More than 3,100 people in the UK have contracted new coronary pneumonia, and the cumulative number of patients has exceeded 240,000. The British government has allocated an additional 84 million pounds (about 790 million Hong Kong dollars) to develop a new vaccine against pneumonia and expects to launch the market in September.

British Minister of Commerce, Energy and Industrial Strategy Cen Haowen mentioned at a press conference on Sunday that if Oxford University successfully develops a vaccine, the government will allocate about 130 million pounds (about 1.22 billion Hong Kong dollars) to fund large-scale production, and it is expected to be given priority in September 30 million doses.

Cen Haowen said that until now the government has invested 47 million pounds in vaccine plans at Oxford University and Imperial College, and today announced that it will allocate an additional 84 million pounds to speed up work in this area.

Cen Haowen pointed out that Oxford and the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca reached an agreement that the pharmaceutical company will be responsible for the production of 100 million doses of vaccines, when the UK will give priority to 30 million doses. He said that if the vaccine proves effective, the government will allocate an additional 84 million pounds (about 780 million Hong Kong dollars) on the basis of the previous 47 million pounds (about 440 million Hong Kong dollars), so that the vaccine can be put into mass production as soon as possible.

However, Prime Minister Johnson said in a newspaper article that there may never be a vaccine and that new methods need to be found to control the epidemic.

The United Kingdom is gradually relaxing the “closing the city” measures. Environmental protection organizations promote cycling in London. In response to the government’s call for travel to ride bicycles as much as possible, they also abide by social distance restrictions.
