The Costa Costa Atlantica, a subsidiary of Costa Cruises, Italy, was moored at Nagasaki Port in Japan due to maintenance. One person on board was diagnosed with the new coronavirus earlier. Later, many people were infected, and 14 more were diagnosed, which caused the cruise to accumulate. The number of diagnoses increased to 48.

The Japanese government believes that a collective infection has occurred on the ship, and the authorities are concerned that the cruise outbreak will affect nearby communities. It has deployed personnel and epidemic prevention experts from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to cooperate with the Nagasaki Prefecture government to prevent the epidemic from expanding.

There are 623 crew members on the Costa Costa, including a Japanese interpreter, and no passengers.
